PPES STUDENTS ATTEND YOUTH MUSICIANS FESTIVAL


On April 8th, 2017, select 5th and 6th graders attending the Minnesota Music Educators Association Celebrating Youth Musicians Festival at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School.  Students spent several weeks preparing four music selections to perform with students from eight other schools under the direction of guest conductor Kayla Noble, Music Specialist at Lincoln Elementary in Alexandria, MN.  Students participated in mass rehearsals and break out sessions throughout the day, including: voice part sectionals, folk dancing, drama activities, and garbage drumming.  The day culminated with a public performance.

SUMMER MANUFACTURING AND ENGINEERING CAMP


8th grade students, you have a unique opportunity this summer! Alexandria Technical & Community College is offering a four-day learning experience from June 12-15. During this summer camp you will tour Douglas Machine and BTD Machining to see how they design their engineering products. You will also work cooperatively with other students to design an engineering project for a FitBit. This camp is a great opportunity to learn more about careers in manufacturing and engineering. SPEECH TEAM WINS 7TH CONSECUTIVE SUBSECTION CHAMPIONSHIP!

Speaking, and Junior Ethan Schlosser in Original Oratory; 4th Place:  Sophomore Megan Arens in Creative Expression, Sophomore Eli Simonson in Discussion, Junior Brady Hoppe in Drama, and Freshman Austin Carstensen in Informative Speaking; 5th Place:  8th Grader  Callie Gardner in Discussion,Sophomore Erica Woida in Extemp. Speaking, Senior Nolan Hart in Great Speeches, Freshman Aleisha Thomas in Poetry, 8th Grader Megan Hansen in Prose, and Freshman Jordan Schroeder in Storytelling; 6th Place:  Junior Dillon Vogt in Creative Expression, Junior Emily Shircliff in Drama, Freshman Adrianna Marotto in Great Speeches, Senior Claire Ruckheim in Original Oratory, and Freshman Luke Geiser in Storytelling.  Alternates to the Section tournament are Sierra Drumm, Owen Hezlep, Rosalee Moske, Eja Olson, Aailiyah Pray, Grace Ruckheim, and Andrew Sasness.

FISH AND WILDLIFE TEAM TAKES 2ND PLACE


The Parkers Prairie FFA Fish and Wildlife Team (Levi Arnold, Robb Gylsen, and Justin Thiel) placed 2nd overall in the Region 3 contest at NDSU on March 14. Individually Robb Gylsen took home 7th place overall and Levi Arnold took home 9th place overall. They also earned a trip to compete at the State FFA Convention in April.

REGIONAL HISTORY DAY AT MSU-MOORHEAD


The top History Day projects from the 9th and 10th grade classes participated in the Regional History Day event on Thursday, March 2nd at MSU-Moorhead. This is the first year PPHS has participated in History Day and thirteen students qualified for participation at the State History Day event at the University of Minnesota on April 29th. The state qualifiers are: 
- Luke Geiser in Individual Performance on Newton Knight.
- Maggie Reigstad and Aleisha Thomas in Group Performance on Marie Curie.
- Elli Westfall and Hailey Koep in Group Performance on Dr. Joseph Goldberger.
- Erica Woida and Trever Arceneau for Group Exhibit on the Stonewall Riots.
- Jack Marquardt and Eric Klimek for Group Exhibit on One Team, One Dream.
- Chloe Thue and Eli Simonson for their Documentary on Witold Pilecki.
- Emily Benzinger and Macy Jakubiec for their Documentary on Candy Lightner.
- Also, papers by Abby Burquest on Loretta Janeta Velasquez, Sarah Koep on Nelson Mandela, and Whitney Longie on Jeanette Ranking have advanced to the State History Day event.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY AT PPHS


Come in and check out ninth and tenth grade National History Day Projects in the high school media center from 2:15 until halftime of the BBB game vs. BE on 2/14/17. Bring your Valentines date on a unique excursion learning about history from student made websites, documentaries, papers, and exhibits. You will learn about common and obscure historical topics relating to this years theme "Taking A Stand In History" You will discover interesting facts about local and worldly history and have your chance to vote for the public choice award.

ONE-ACT PLAY EARNS 1ST PLACE AT SUB-SECTION COMPETITION


The Parkers Prairie One-Act Play Cast, under the direction of Karen Lee, earned 1st place at the Sub-Section 22A competition on Saturday. They will perform once again on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Section competition in Hawley.

PPHS GEOGRAPHY BEE


Tuesday, November 23, Faith Alberts won the Parkers Prairie Geography Bee competition. Faith is the daughter of Tim and Sarah Alberts of Parkers Prairie. The school bee, at which students answered questions on geography, was the first round in the 28th annual National Geographic Bee. See more here.

FFA TEAM EARNS 1ST PLACE


The Parkers Prairie FFA Floriculture Team of Claire Ruckheim, Sarah Koep and Grace Roers placed 1st overall in the Region 3 contest in Alexandria on Wednesday, October 5. Individually they took home 3 of the top 5 place ribbons!  They also earned a trip to compete at State FFA Convention in April. Congratulations!

RECOGNIZING VIETNAM VETERANS


The PPHS History Club is looking to find the names of Vietnam veterans not already listed on the plaque in the high school, which is dedicated to all those who attended Parkers Prairie High School and also served in the Vietnam War. We are also looking for the names of nurses who served in the Vietnam War and attended PPHS. Unfortunately, not all of the names were put on the plaque, and we are looking to fix that.
